runes and protective symbols run across the entire world, with many overlaps and similarities going so far back it's hard to know what has roots from where. in pagan poland, protective symbols were drawn into dirt floors and painted on doorframes and window sills to support the family inside. one of the common patterns, seen still on pysanky eggs, translates to “wolf 's teeth” and features a zig-zag of varying proportions.

this cardigan pattern takes that motif off of the door and onto your body, running across your chest and back and peeking out from hems and cuffs for good measure. knit from the top down and in the round, you can either leave this sweater as a pullover or be brave with some steeking to turn it into a cardigan. the choice is up to you. it's your body wearing these protective stitches, after all.
