meet your host
hi, i’m ash!
i’m a queer femme and hedgewitch with a double dose of sagittarius and a venus in pisces, aka i have all the feels all the time. i’m a knitwear designer and natural dyer by trade, dog parent and growing herbalist by life. travelling is one of my biggest pleasures. food is another. deep belly laughs with dear ones is one too.
i was lucky enough to have grandparents and parents on both sides who made me clothes and taught me how to work with textiles from an early age - my industrial sewing machine was a gift from my dad, and my mum taught herself to knit left-handed so she could teach this very leftie 7-year-old to knit an octopus (hey, i’ve always been an overachiever). i started working on my me-made wardrobe in earnest almost ten years ago, and i’m proud to say that these days, almost everything that i wear from undies on out has either been made, mended, or altered by me for a better fit.
i’ve been writing about the role of fashion and gender identity for years now. as a non-binary queer femme, i am hyper-conscious of the way that my clothes help or hinder me in performing my gender identity every day. as a knitwear designer, i have always had a lace-for-all aesthetic, and as a natural dyer, i’m deeply devoted to the continued study of how we can bring traditional textile practices into modern use while also improving on their sustainability in the process.
next up on my to-tackle list is a quilted dog coat for the resident furry assistant, willow, and shoes. i’m dreaming of a comfy lace stiletto, and i’m always up for a challenge. but first, probably i’ll knit another pair of socks and pop a dress into my dye pots.
FAQ
i’m not sure if i’m really interested in making my own wardrobe. can i still support your work and join the community anyway?
absolutely! you’re under no obligation at any point to use any of the resources in the community, including the me-made wardrobe mini course. we appreciate you supporting the work regardless.
do i have to participate in the community or can i just download my workbook and get back to my wardrobe?
whatever you prefer! you’re more than welcome to join the community as a monthly or annual supporter and then never ever sign into your account. it’s totally your call how you engage with the community and its resources.
can i cancel my ongoing contribution anytime?
yes. you can control your membership 24/7 by logging into your account and navigating to your dashboard.
do i get a refund if i leave part way through my renewal period?
no. you’re charged automatically on the same date every month/year from when you joined, and while you can leave at any time, there are no refunds provided, pro-rated or otherwise. you’ll retain access to the community for the remainder of your current billing period, whether that’s 1 day or 30 days. if you’re thinking of leaving, feel free to double check your calendar to time your cancellation with the day or two before your renewal is scheduled.
my budget is pretty tight right now. can i get the workbook another way?
the cost of the workbook alone would be more than one month in the creative coven community, so if you really just want the workbook, feel free to sign up for 1 month, download it (and any other goodies you want) from the community’s many available resources, and then cancel your subscription. you’re free to come back at any point in the future if your finances change.
can i sign into the community from my phone or tablet?
yuppers! you can access your content from any device connected to the internet. if you’re having issues accessing your account, give us a shout at hello.sunflowerknit@gmail.com.
i’m actually interested in supporting your work in a more substantial way. is there a way to support financially at a higher rate?
heck yes! please send us an email about how you’d like to help and we’ll get that dialogue going. you can also set up your own one-time or monthly donation of any amount here (please get in touch with us if you would also like to access the community).
is the me-made wardrobe mini course really what you need?
it’s a yes if:
🪡 you get giddy thinking about the fabric you’re going to cut into for that next special outfit
✂️ you appreciate getting to make clothes that fit your body perfectly, and enjoy the challenge of learning a new tailoring skill
🧶 making is your love language, and you love yourself even on the bad days
🧵 you prefer controlling the production process - it lets you deep dive into the nerdy parts of making and also helps you keep things more sustainable and ethical
maybe not so much if:
🚫 you have zero interest in making your own clothes
🚫 everything fits you perfectly right off the rack
🚫 you don’t see the point in spending hours making a hat or shirt when you could just buy one from walmart
🚫 you think this whole “climate crisis” thing is a lie created by the liberal media
