making - chill the fuck out dog cookies

chill out dog cookies recipe

it was willow’s 2-year gotcha-versary last week, so to mark the occasion, i made her a fresh batch of herbal cookies! originally published for my patreon audience, i’m sharing them here for you. featuring herbal allies that are safe for puppers and help to lower an anxious baseline, i lovingly refer to these as her “chill the fuck out” cookies. technically humans could eat them too, but i warn you that they’re very dry! maybe just add the herbs to these orange cookies with rosemary buttercream instead? (i’ve moved away from providing new ongoing content on patreon since the pandemic, but there are several years’ worth of recipes and herbal remedies and behind-the-scenes peeks at tiny coven studios available for as low as $1/month if you want to access them!)

i initially created these cookies because willow’s size makes providing her with cbd on an ongoing basis not really feasible. i cooked up some extra treats for her using more affordable herbs that also have calming effects while being safe for (most) puppers. as always, you know your dog best, so be sure your pup doesn't have any allergies to ingredients used, and if you don't have an anxious dog, maybe just swap in some oregano and basil instead.

ingredients:

  • 2.5 cups flour (use gluten-free if your dog is on a grain-free diet)

  • 1 tsp salt

  • 1 egg

  • 1/2 cup warm water

  • 2 teaspoons of lightly ground dried lavender, lemon balm, chamomile, skullcap, valerian root, and/or passionflower (i use my mortar and pestle to crush things a bit)

instructions:

1. preheat oven to 350 degrees F.

2. mix your dry ingredients together. add egg and water.

3. knead dough until well mixed.

4. roll your dough onto a floured surface until it's 1/2 inch thick.

5. cut into biscuits (i love using tiny cookie cutters for this. the treats last much longer and i can spread more out over the day this way.)

6. bake on a prepared baking sheet for 30 minutes. let cool before storing in airtight container.
